In reality, the subject of Blackjack was Yoshinori's own selfish input taking center stage. To him, this was as much a gambling trip to engage in his own vices than it was a night on the town with a dear friend of his. Even if he was here primarily to show his friend a good time, that didn't mean he couldn't also feed the demon that was his own gambling addiction. Right? Wasn't that why they were here? To gamble?

Stepping closer to the dealer's table, Yoshinori was brought to a brief pause as Maria offered greater clarity as to the nature of her association with the game of Blackjack--which was to say, not much. Beyond scattered mentions in popular media, and even vaguer visual depictions, she had no clue as to the specifics of the game in even the basic sense. A soft smile crossing his features, Yoshinori directed a single digit forward, intent on focusing Maria's attention towards a currently in progress game.

"Simple version coming up. Blackjack deals mainly in ranks: Numbered cards of a given suit." He gestured to the cards already present on the table,"The number present on the cards equates to its value, on a scale from two to ten. Face cards, whether they be a King, Queen or a Jack, are worth ten points. And an ace card can be worth either a one or an eleven." With every point in the explanation of the cards' value, Yoshinori would point out the corresponding card if he came across it actively in play. It wasn't exactly a perfect way to explain, but it was the best "on-site" learning that he could provide in the moment.

Sealed Ball

"Name of the game is to against the dealer. You ultimately gotta work on finding a way to get to a total sum of twenty one." Yoshinori explained,"Caveat of that, however, is if you go beyond the value of twenty one, it's an instant loss. So the name of the game is trying to either secure twenty one, which is ideal...or stand when you get close enough to it." A small smile crossed his features as he raised his smoking pipe to his lips once more, already beginning to saunter his way towards an available table.

"It sounds boring at first, but I promise you...the thrill grabs you soon enough. Especially if you win some earnings. And perhaps even more when you lose. So are you interested?"

The two Shinigami approached one of the tables dedicated to Blackjack after the crash course in the rules of the game. The dealer sitting by the table was a bright faced young blond man, perhaps from the Beauregard family itself, casually playing with a few tokens in his fingertips while waiting for any new clients to play against. As soon as he saw the two Shinigami, he raised his eyes and put on a bright smile.

"Yes, hello, are you here for a match? Both of you?"

"Yeah, we'll give it a go..." Maria commented first and sat down. She still didn't quite get the idea how the game was supposed to be played - Yoshi focused on the values of the cards and that the objective was to get to 21 as quickly as possible, but that was far from everything. "So, am I supposed to take this?" she muttered, reaching for the deck of cards, before the dealer raised up his hand to stop her.

"Please. A little patience. If this is your first time playing, I'll help you with the rules," the dealer answered and quickly began setting up the game for the Shinigami. Tokens were handed out, the deck shuffled and spliced, and the first rounds of the game began.

Maria couldn't guess how Yoshi was feeling about the game, but for her, it was... going rather poorly. In the first few rounds, when she still hadn't gotten a hang of the basic strategies, she played way too aggressive - requesting more cards even when she had already accumulated seventeen or eighteen points, betting on the low chance of drawing enough cards to get under 21 and then getting burned. Her fortunes started to improve somewhat, but not too much.

The dealer was just... so abnormally lucky with his draw, too. More than once, he'd draw enough cards for 21 points instantly, while she could only dream of the opportunity.

"This is bullshit..." she muttered under her breath in despair.
