無意味な 百事 護廷十三隊 - 1st DIVISION Location:Aokigahara Mori Obssession"...Worse than anything you can possibly imagine.." The Vice Captain threatened further. It was probably his most prized possession by which he was struggling to attain. A future where anyone can live peacefully, without having to fear for their lives-- a paradise. Driven by his love for his soulmate at first, strengthened by the regret haunting him to this day, there was nothing that could stop Hyakuji from striving for such an impossible dream. It was becoming his obsession, something that would break his sanity if he was left unchecked. He sighed a relief, and loosened his grip on his blade as he heard Akina's assurance of not getting in his way, much less disturbing peace. "Fear is an interesting word to use. I do not fear you, I just don't want to make enemies of the people I once considered friends…"Perhaps they would have been able to continue such a relationship if they didn't have opposing views. But it couldn't be helped. Times were only ever changing, and along with it, so did people. Different circumstances have molded them into what they were now, for all its worth, the end has yet to reveal which among their means was just. "Well, I'll be going…" the shinigami turned back and was ready to leave when he was met by another survivor, one who he also recognized in an instant. Kunimitsu Yasuhiko-- the former 6th Division Captain who also led the visored during the war 600 years ago. While Kojiro didn't necessarily look up to him like the other visored, he certainly treated him with respect and gave what was due to him. "And here I thought you don't have any plans to show up. That could work…" Hyakuji said plainly, "...although I do not intend to repeat myself. I just hope you were busy up there listening to what I just said…"

( From shadows, we'll descend upon the world...) It was impossible to not recognize Yasuhiko Kunimitsu, the famous Captain of the Sixth Division, who had once shaped it into the most respected Division of the Gotei 13 it currently is. Still, the six hundred year gap had left some notable changes. While scars could also be seen on Katsuaki's face as well, the branded stamp left by a hot torture iron running across Yasuhiko's eye was extremely sharp and impossible to not notice. The white hair traditionally inherited by the Kunimitsu nobles, the white which could be seen in Yasuhiko's son today, was not there either. He had died it red after the betrayal, abandoning the connection with his past. Yasuhiko said nothing in response to Hyakuji's comment, merely rose up from his leaning place and then dropped down to the grassy surface below, expecting the fellow Shinigami to follow. From there, he continued making his way forward in haste - and soon, the two Shinigami would return back to the ominous depths of the Aokigahara forest. Once they stepped past the folly of leaves through which Katsuaki had led Hyakuji through a while ago, they'd see nothing but more trees behind them. For six hundred years, the Visored had stayed under the radar of the entire spiritual world, so it was only understandable that their home would be practically impossible to find without prior knowledge. Once they returned back to the forest, Yasuhiko spoke up. " Hyakuji," he muttered as he glanced to his peer behind him over his shoulder. " If you rise to the top in the Gotei 13, and enact that vision you seek, would you allow the Visored to return to Soul Society and become Shinigami again?"

無意味な 百事 護廷十三隊 - 1st DIVISION Location:Aokigahara Mori Seek the light, shatter the darknessIt was strange seeing a Kunimitsu with hair color different from their genetics. It was among the notable features of the clan, apart from their exemplary record producing powerful shinigami generations after generations. Once a researcher in his past life, Hyakuji knew it was possible to bear a child with a recessive trait, which would probably explain why Yasuhiko’s hair was red, however, from what he could remember, this was not how he looked back then. His hair was of the same color with all the other Kunimitsu’s before he was betrayed and tortured right after being used as a tool in the war. Thus, the First Division shinigami speculated it was probably his own doing, to get rid of whatever connection he had with his past, much as how he was denying the person of Kojiro in his current lifetime. There was a sense of familiarity between the two; Hyakuji could understand his fellow shinigami, except that none of this encounter explained why he called for him. As they made their way through the forest, the black-maned reaper remained silent, trying to look for an opportunity to strike a conversation. The night was growing darker, and only the bright moon served as illumination to their steps, which was occasionally being obstructed by light gray clouds drifting along the cool gentle wind. They were being engulfed in silence as they set out deeper into the thick forest. Strangely enough, the cicadas screamed no more, as if they were forbidden to sing a song for the dead--- or the forgotten souls like the visored, or the humans who abandoned their lives thinking no one ever cared for them... at all. The eerie stillness was only broken when Yasuhiko parted his lips to speak, and asked if the Visored would be welcomed should Hyakuji get a hold of the vision he was desperately seeking. The Vice-Captain did not respond as soon. In truth, he had not taken the visored into consideration, thinking they were erased from existence. But now that they had revealed themselves to him, he had to think about what place they would hold in the world of his creation. After taking some deep contemplation,he finally spoke, “I have asked this many times to your fellow members, but no one answered satisfactorily. Let’s not keep going in circles, Kunimitsu-san. Tell me, what exactly do you want from me?”Or, if it was just as Akina had told him, the more appropriate question would be, " ...what exactly are you planning to do?”

Yasuhiko looked at Hyakuji in silence while the other Shinigami announced the same question to him as he did to Alina, yet again wishing to know their side of the conflict before he reveals anything to them. The Visored's eyes, one reddened from the damage inflicted by the torture in Soul Society, bore at his peer, before they finally glanced away and Yasuhiko spoke: " Still not satisfied, huh..." Their trip across the Aokigahara Forest continued, not a single living being crossed their paths, and so, the forest around them was quiet and tranquil. Only occasionally would a faint wind blow past the gaps in the leafage, fluttering the leaves and picking up a handful of flower petals, taking then across the air. " I was the one who called for you to be brought here, and asked Katsuaki to contact you, though a Shinigami in Soul Society who could send the message to you," Yasuhiko explained. " The reason why is... I had been considering the possibility of giving you Visored powers again." He glanced towards Hyakuji over his shoulder. " The original intent of the Hogyoku was to create a perfect fusion of Shinigami and Hollow souls... and I am positive that if it is collected to one piece again, this same process could be activated and your Visored abilities could be restored." Yasuhiko stopped in his tracks. " Of course, this plan was done with the assumption that you'd wish for those powers to be returned, which you clearly do not. To you, your Visored past is a scar you do not wish to touch again, and I understand that. However, it also means that we had no reason to have ever met one another again."

無意味な 百事 護廷十三隊 - 1st DIVISION Location:Tokyo, Japan Hypocritical SalvationThe landscape changed from the mystical forest of large canopies to the rural suburbs of Yamanashi with occasional traditional houses on sight, the two shinigami continued leaping from one tree to another in the stillness of the night, until they reached the boundary to Tokyo. Yasuhiko responded to his question, explaining that the reason for calling him was to give Hyakuji his Visored powers back. Although he did not necessarily hate his fellow visored for reappearing in his life again, the mere thought of acquiring it for the second time irked him. “You are right, Kunimitsu-san. I am moving forward, and I do not wish to be bothered by my past again...” Hyakuji stopped, and turned to face the red-head exile. There was something about this meeting that made him rather uncomfortable. While Akina assured him that Silver Bullet would not disturb peace, be it in Soul Society or the Realm of the Living, he could not rest easy with Yasuhiko’s presence. It was as if he was hiding something from the rest of his fellow visored. Something really did not add up… Why was Yasuhiko concerned with giving him his powers back? Was he preparing for something in the near future? He could only guess. And if his instincts were right, he had to do something to stop him. Hyakuji figured the former 6th Division Captain had no plan in telling him; thus, if he really wished to know, either he would torture Yasuhiko right here, or he would join the Silver Bullet with the intent of knowing his secret. Both choices would leave him in a tough spot, however. He didn’t want to make enemies with the visored, nor would he want to be charged for treason when he was this close to his goal. There was nothing more important to him than to create a peaceful world, a place without hatred and suffering-- a place where everyone can be free. For his beloved, and for all the souls they vowed to protect. Was it so important to remain loyal to Soul Society, when everything he was doing was concealed in unsuspected betrayal in the end? Yukari might not agree to it, Haku might not approve of it. But perhaps, hypocrisy was the only way to keep everyone safe… “If… I join the Silver Bullet…” the Vice-Captain finally spoke, “...will you allow me to continue serving Gotei 13?”[402]

Yasuhiko has lived for over a millennium, and he has met many, many people during that time, to the point where someone like him could register patterns in the faintest facial expressions to figure out what the other side truly thinks. They say that Captain-Commander Katsumoto has lived for such a long time and his ability to perceive the intentions of people is so great that he can read anyone like an open book, and is impossible to trick with a lie. Yasuhiko's perception was not as terrific as his, but he had such skill as well. The leader of the Visored could register both uncertainty and suspicion in Hyakuji's expression, as well as the brief stammer in his voice during the question following. It could just be a natural reaction from a person who has yet to fully comprehend the magnitude of meeting his comrades six hundred years ago - or it could be something worse. Hyakuji took a different route, asking about the hypothetical where he does join the Silver Bullet, and whether it would still be negotiable with his position in the Gotei 13. Yasuhiko's answer was clear: " Even without any reservations regarding your service to Gotei 13, that would be a threat to both you and us." The Visored stopped, and briefly turned to Hyakuji. " You are the first person ever since the Quincy War who has been made privy of our existence. We have already made a very bold move just by reaching out to you - if we push our luck further, and try to get you to balance between those two worlds, then we risk being discovered by Katsumoto and the others, and extinguished at last." He sighed, and glanced to the horizon. " Me, Akina, Katsuaki... We all are hermits, who cannot show our identities to the outside world. We travel beyond the Fortress disguised, masking our Shinigami nature and appearing as if we were regular Fullbringers. Regular mortals, who jump in to danger from nowhere, rescue those besieged by spiritual threats they cannot stop - but regular mortals nonetheless. For us, there is no other option, not unless we are ever allowed to return - and if you ever choose to join us, Hyakuji, then that is the only life I can offer you, too."

無意味な 百事 護廷十三隊 - 1st DIVISION Location:Tokyo, Japan A sinner's resolveAs expected, Yasuhiko was more perceptive than he thought. The visored made a safe response while expressing his rejection of Hyakuji's desire to join Silver Bullet while maintaining his position in Goteijusantai leaving the Vice Captain in a predicament. Of course, the sudden change of mind was suspicious when he blatantly told the other visored and even the former 6th Division Captain of his disdain of his past identity. Yasuhiko's sincerity in doing justice was evident in how he explained Silver Bullet's intentions in helping the mortals one way or another while keeping themselves low, hidden from the radars of Soul Society. To think that he would be doing the same should he join the organization was unthinkable, especially when he was close to getting the highest position in the Gotei 13. He could not just drop everything and vanish just so he could watch the visored closely. There were more pressing matters to focus on, and perhaps this rendezvous was meant to be a distraction from his original goal. Thus, the Vice-captain dropped his suspicion for now. He would have to keep watch of their movements in the future though. How he would do it, he has yet to figure out. "It was just a hypothetical question. But with what you just said, it is clear that you do not approve of such action, which I thoroughly understand. Very well then, I would no longer insist."
The wind caught up strands of his hair, and it flowed gracefully as Hyakuji did not leave the gaze of the scarlet-haired shinigami. "So I guess this is goodbye then. As I said, I personally do not hate the visored, and I still would have considered you friends. But we are treading different paths now, in the hope of reaching the same conclusion. Only time will tell whose means is justified. As for me, this is how I would like to atone for my sins. To reach the top leadership of Gotei 13 and bring an end to its tyranny." Hyakuji was prepared to leave, walking past Yasuhiko when he remembered the visored's curious question a while ago, "...and to answer your question earlier, of course, the visored are welcome in the world I am about to create…" [375]

Yasuhiko listened to Hyakuji's final statement in silence. His expression did not change one way or another while his peer was explaining the differences between them, and how he justified his chosen path in Soul Society was a way to atone for his sins. The Vice-Captain's final words, however - assuring that his dream future for the spiritual world will have a place for the Visored - got Yasuhiko to answer with a very faint nod. " Then that is good enough for me." Some of his peers were more vehement in who was pure enough to count as a hero for the world and who was not. Yasuhiko believed in a more pragmatic approach, however. They, Visored, can be paragons of justice as they need to be, but there is no reason for them to discriminate against someone like Hyakuji, who, in spite of his surrender to Soul Society, still had a heroic end in his mind. Much like Hyakuji, Yasuhiko had already turned away and was ready to depart, but he briefly stopped, and glanced over his shoulder towards the other Shinigami again. Because of how sparse, or effectively nonexistent news from Soul Society were in the Fortress of Strength, there was no reason to not ask about a thing or two bottled up in his mind. He and Hyakuji were still in good graces, after all. " ...before you go..." Yasuhiko muttered, and glanced to the grass below their feet. " ...how is Tezuka?"

無意味な 百事 護廷十三隊 - 1st DIVISION Location:Tokyo, Japan Ignite the flames of justiceFor the last time, Hyakuji met Yasuhiko’s eyes. Those sapphire irises had seen so much affliction through the entire course of history. After the visored’s fall, he continued to witness pain in countless wars humans have engaged themselves into. Was there no end to such a bloodbath? It was Hyakuji’s goal to rip off the feud that has been plaguing mankind, be it in Soul Society or the Realm of the Living. Perhaps the visored were also fighting for the same kind of redemption, where everyone can relate to one another in peace… where there is no tyranny nor abuse of power… where no one has to be betrayed nor hurt… where there are no slaves… and everyone can enjoy freedom in whatever form. Even with the exile’s contempt for the organization he once served, there still lie in his heart concern for his family. Hyakuji did not personally know the Kunimitsu heir, he had never talked to him in person, but his achievements as the 6th division captain spoke well and proved the lineage’s legacy. A faint smile painted Hyakuji’s lips, “The 6th Division Captain lived up to the name of your clan. I can only speak praise of what he has done. The 6th Division is very much commendable, thanks to his leadership.” But perhaps, the Kunimitsu ancestor was looking for a more personal answer, which the long-maned reaper could not provide, “That is all I can say about him. If you’re waiting for a more sentimental response, I am not the right person to ask. I’m sorry.”If Yasuhiko had nothing more to say, Hyakuji would offer a faint nod, and disappear from his presence. Once he got back to Soul Society, he had yet to think what to make of this meeting. Of course, he would stick to his promise to keep this a secret. But what about his own plan? How would this encounter fit into his scheme? He was certain of his grand plan but now that he knew his fellow visored were alive, he could not deny a faint doubt in his resolve. Before, it was not easy to rebel against the organization since he was on his own, yet with the visoreds… with the visoreds by his side, it might be possible--- Wait... No... He had to continue walking on this righteous path. A handful of visored was still a weak resistance compared to the grandeur that was Soul Society; which had been lording over the souls of mankind for thousands of generations by now. It could not be burned down by a strange spark, the fire has to ignite from its own abode. He has to be that fire. [456] EXIT

Hyakuji's answer was straightforward and methodical, about what you would expect to hear from a Vice-Captain in the Gotei 13. He commended the accomplishments of Yasuhiko's son as the Captain of his Division, but had nothing to add when it came to what Tezuka was like as a person. It did not seem like Hyakuji was withholding information, either. So, they must not have met and Hyakuji could only mention what he has heard through the official channels. The last time Yasuhiko had seen him, Tezuka was merely a child. Whether he'd become a high tier Shinigami, much less a Captain, was still anyone's guess. But he has, and if Hyakuji's tone held any meaning, then the Sixth Division has not lost its way under his leadership, either. " ...thank you regardless, Hyakuji. Until we meet again," Yasuhiko said in response, just as Hyakuji vanished and departed, leaving the Visored alone in the outskirts of Tokyo. His existence and rank placed the relation of the Visored to Soul Society in a different light. They had always understood that far from everyone in Soul Society are corrupt or tyrannical, and individual Shinigami can be just as good-natured as anyone else. But one of their own, so high in the hierarchy, wishing to transform it into something truly heroic... Maybe, if Hyakuji's dreams as not as full of hot air as they thought, they could return to Soul Society without any bloodshed..? Wonder what Tendo knows about it...Wonder what Hyakuji thinks of Tendo. He knows that Tendo was responsible for the death of his past self, and yet that did not seem to bother him. ...and where is Tendo?
" ...Hello?" A young woman dressed in a black jacket had arrived to Tendo Shoten, only to learn that the door was locked when she tried to pull it. This was odd. It was working hours, and she knew that the owner of the shop was always working and open for visitors at this time. Didn't he basically live in this shop, anyway? The woman peeked over a window. All the stalls were untouched, even the light was still on, but the shopkeeper and his team were absent. You might guess that he had to run an errand somewhere and locked the shop quick - but no. Zarzil could feel the trail of his Reiryoku. Somewhere deep, but somewhere nearby. " What are you doing out there, Tendo..?" She wanted to ask the rogue Shinigami for help yet again, but now, she was curious. So, Zarzil stepped away from the door, briefly glanced around to see whether anyone was spying on her, and cast a spell atop her right palm. With it, she summoned a tiny demonic fly, whose senses were linked to hers. This fly was small enough to squeeze through the keyhole and fly inside. The Princess of the Kingdom of Demons calmly sat down on a bench some distance away from Tendo Shoten, pretending to read from her Grimoire, all while actually watching and listening to anything her spy saw or heard.
" ...the crucial failure of the Hogyoku is that it cannot distinguish desires. Good desires, evil desires, it is all the same to the machine. It is already extremely dangerous, for what would happen if the Demons or Arrancar got a hold of it, much less someone... rogue? And the more powerful I make this... "second Hogyoku", the more dangerous it would thus be..." An elevator was descending down a shaft deep, deep below the city of Tokyo, at least twenty kilometers underground, and two people were standing in the elevator, waiting for it to descend, until finally, it arrived to a laboratory. Not as impressive as the Shinigami Research and Development Institute which Tendo had once founded, but adequate nonetheless - especially as it was run by one of the greatest scientists which the world has ever seen. In spite of his banishment from Soul Society, Tendo had not abandoned the spiritual sciences. He still needed to produce the gadgets and tools he sells in his shop, for one, and for two... he still had ideas on how to bring the world further to the peace which he once believed he could accomplish with the Hogyoku. " But then I had a flash of inspiration." Tendo stepped forward, his footsteps echoing across the hall. The man walking besides him was Virgil, to whom Tendo turned after that statement and continued: " The vessel for the first Hogyoku was an orb, giving it the shape you and I know... but what if the vessel for a Hogyoku was a person?" " A... person..?" Virgil muttered - though he was taken aback, he did not show a hint of emotion in his expression. " What do you mean?" In response, Tendo waved towards the array of tubes behind a line of computers, appearing like an enormous pipe organ. " Exactly what I said. Placing a living subject in that machine, turning its mind and flesh into a second Hogyoku." " You are going to... turn someone into a godlike entity capable of fulfilling any desire? That is how you will make it more safe?" " In a way..." the scientist muttered. " That subject would not survive the transformation. The Hogyoku would eat away its sentience and soul, leaving the result lifeless, mostly. Created in such a way, a Hogyoku would inherit traces of the subject's memories, ideals, and, most importantly, conscience. It would grant the Hogyoku a conscience, allowing it to distinguish between good and evil desires - and so fulfill the purpose we all want. I wouldn't even need to split it into pieces and scatter it, we could just keep it safe and ask for anything we want whenever we need to, without fear that a villain would use it to bring forth evil..." Virgil folded his arms. After briefly waving his hand to shoo away an annoying fly circling around him, the Fullbringer continued: " ...I see. Then why did you bring me here?" With a sigh, Tendo sat down upon a nearby chair. " I want you to bring me a test subject." " Me?" " I had put some thought into what kind of person I wish to sacrifice for the second Hogyoku... It can't be a Quincy, their hearts are overtaken by hatred, while a Shinigami is too concerned with listening to orders and upholding balance to be truly just to all races. I settled on a human mortal, and you command many of them - so, I have to ask you, for someone noble whom you can sacrifice."
