Now that this place was his home, Lazarus had taken t getting accustomed to the ways of the humans, one of the many things they did was go to libraries. As someone who was not of this world normally, he needed to catch up on all there was to know, nd much of his off time from work was spent either in that library or this one.



"Young man it's closing time, you know the rules, make sure to put the books on the cart before you leave..."



The old woman spoke with a smile, hunched over slightly with thick frames glasses resting halfway down her nose. They had come to an amicable silent agreement, Lazarus would study as much as he liked without bother, ad in return he would toss out any rowdy individuals who happened to think they owned the place. Nothing too crazy ever happened, often times it was just the young adults coming in for a place to hang out, but sometimes the odd drunkard or angry customer would come by.



"Of course, I'll see you next time Ma'am."



Lazarus gathered the books and placed them on a rolling cart at the end of the isle, collecting his jacket from the coat rack near the front desk. With a wave over his shoulder he walked out, hearing the door lock behind him as she closed up for the night. A sig escaped him, and with a look in either direction he would make sure the coast was clear before using his reishi platform to get high above the buildings. The night sky was normally bright, but it was a new moon this evening, and the clouds hung overhead heavy with the weight and threat of rain. It provided a cover of darkness that allowed him to practice uninterrupted, stretching a few times before getting into a work out routine to keep himself in shape. It consisted of mostly swordsmanship and the occasional hand to hand combat, though he drew no weapons.

Nezuel jumped to the left, a cero flying past him as his binding flew in the wind.  Then with a step to the right he dodged the giant foot that tried to flatten him.  He was being careful, the hollows the Queen sent after him getting stronger and stronger.  He had the nagging suspicion that if he managed to beat the menos grande in front of him the next foe he'd fight would be another one...or possibly two.  He had to wonder, at what point would some other intuition find out what was happening and come investigating.  What would happen if adjuchas started to show up in the human world looking for him.  What would be the next step after that, other arrancars or perhaps even a Vasto Lorde?  Would the Espada themselves come looking for him after a time...or perhaps they'd send their direct lackies first?

He could run...but that would let a menos grande run around free in the area...the amount of casualties couldn't be justified.  Perhaps Vance the quincy would show up and deal with it but...violence wasn't exactly his strong suit was it?  He sighed, taking out his sword and moving above the gillian, then dropping down with his blade.

It moved through swiftly, cleanly...and the fact that it did left the arrancar with no small amount of wonder.  How long ago had he fought that gillian in the canyon with Takano's help...how long had it been since Laz and Vance had dealt with those other gillians?  He'd grown stronger since he'd become an arrancar, certainly, but the rate that he'd been doing so was...extraordinary.

He wiped off his blade and sheathed it, savoring the meal that the souls within the hollow would provide him...then he noticed the familiar riatsu signature in the air above.  His eyes widened as he drew in the air, combining kido and a garganta as he appeared infront of the quincy Lazarus. 

He looked, to put it to a single word, crazed.  He grabbed the quincy, hands burning as he hugged him.  "Listen to me, I can't go back to Haven right now, I'm in trouble!"

The sense of reiatsu crept up on him rapidly, and after a moment of looking around he felt the arms of the smaller hollow wrap around him, brows raised and eyes a bit wide at the state of the other. There were a number of questions that ran through his mind, like where had Nezuel bee since Haven, what kind of trouble, why did he look as if he hadn't had a good nights sleep in weeks. His arms came up, a hand on each shoulder as he looked the other over in more detail, trying to glean some hidden information about the state of him.



"I haven't even been back to Haven since our departure, but if you're in trouble it's likely the safest place to go, tell me what's going on and we'll call Takano on the phone he gave you."



His grip was firm, a reassurance that whatever was happening he was safe with the Quincy, but also firm enough to hopefully keep the smaller male in one place if he happened to have a mental breakdown of sorts. This was a first for Lazarus, but he read enough books and documents to know that it was better to have the hollow focus on him than go out and have a potential freak out somewhere else. The deep amber hues of his scanned the night sky, his mind opening up to try and sense any hollows that might be in the area, or shinigami for that matter. What ever the issue at hand was, he had a feeling Nezuel might be too hyped up to listen to reason.

"I-I" Nezuel started to say, eyes widening as he realized what Lazarus was saying.  He had been hoping for so long that he could find one of the members of Haven to talk to them, convince them to contact anyone else and let them know the situation he was in but Lazarus didn't have a phone.  Perhaps they hadn't trusted the quincy enough to give him one, perhaps they had run out of phones, perhaps it had simply slipped their mind but...it was a disaster for him.  "I don't have it...I broke it in case I got captured." As if to answer Lazarus' next questions, something like 'captured by who' a kumon started to open, a smaller hollow starting to come after him.  Nezuel immediately pointed a finger and shot a bolt of lightning at it, killing it.

Nezuel started to pace in the air, walking on the reishi platform.  "I'm being tracked, in case you happen upon anyone else from our little group." he motioned towards the hollow corpse.  "The Queen is not...pleased with me and keeps sending minions to kill me.  One before that was a Menos Grande...though I'd gotten a little time after that one but maybe not? We need some way to contact them...damn it all."

He stopped walking as a thought came to him.  "I can't draw the Queen's forces to Haven but...I can draw Haven here...maybe if I use," he looks at Laz  "If we use enough riatsu they might come to investigate...but these small frys arn't going to do it....I need a better target, someone who can take a few hits and can give them back in return."  He smiles, the maniac expression reaching his eyes.  "Oh, well...how about a rematch Lazzy?"

That unsettling notion that Nezuel might not see reason was proving to be true, Lazarus wasn't so quick to give up though. He knew the other was likely still stronger than him, and them fighting it out might not draw anybody but the OGA here, in which case Vance would chew him out about it later. Holding his hands up, he spoke with a smile, trying to convince the hollow not to do what he was planning to do.



"So you're in trouble with the Queen, I get that, not the best position to be in. Fighting might not get you the response you need, so let's just calm down and think about this a little more huh?"



His mind was racing over the information, how had Nezuel angered the Queen, how important was he that this Queen decided death was the only recourse. then there was the issue of if this didn't work, how would they get in contact with anyone at Haven, and would they even be able to feel this from that location. Takano was the only one who stayed there regularly, and if Gaia wasn't there who knows where she might be. Too many variables to factor in at the moment, and judging from the look in Nezuel's eyes, the least important ones.

Nez smiled as Lazarus tried to wiggle his shapely behind out of this little fight they were going to have. The arrancar had to admit that a part of him knew that just talking things out with the quincy was most likely the best solution to the problem that was at hand. The issue was, when you're a hollow you're used to hearing many voices in your head, parts of yourself trying to talk, order, ot offer advice...and that part of him after fighting for so long and so hard was very small.

"Twist and constrict," He'd start to say, the chanting telling the quincy boy that Nezuel was about to start using kido. "hold steady the foe! Bakudou #4: Haninawa." Crackling yellow electricity, clearly different from what Nezuel usually used, shot from his hands to try and wrap around his new foe. Meanwhile, he held up his other as frost started to gather, this attack known to the quincy for its ability to sap the inner reserves of the one it hit.

Neither one would stop Lazaruz from moving, that wasn't the goal after all, but it would make it harder for him to deal with what came next. He knew how fast the quincy could be and he wanted to weaken him a little before the real fun began. Holding out two fingers at the quincy the arrancar shot out two concentrated rays of electricity...these very much known to the quincy they were flying towards.

It was clear and evident that this wasn't going to be something they could talk through, and sad as it was to say, Lazarus knew that if he had any shot of getting the arrancar to listen, he'd have to use force. One of the spells was new to him, and because of that he wasn't as quick to avoid it, feeling the chains of electricity wrap around him in an attempt to keep him from going very far. The suddenness of the spell caught him off guard, and as he turned to see what was going on next, he found himself pierced by the fangs of ice and cold, the spell he knew all too well from their first fight. It was then that he would see the finger pointed his way, and with just enough of a turn on his heels, Lazarus would slide between the two beams of electrical piercing energy.



"So be it..."



There was a moment, however brief, where one might hear a pin drop if there was such a way to do so in the sky. Lazarus summoned no weapons, nor did he try and run away, but he was drawing reishi from around them to his palms. He was focusing the reishi in such a way that he might get more power from the spell he would cast, looking up with those piercing amber eyes before three near straight beams fired from his fingers. He was aiming to immobilize, so two at the legs and one at the right forearm, all fired to aim at the joints of the hollow before him. Standing tall in the nights inky black sky, Lazarus readied himself for what was to come.

Nezuel only had to move a little to avoid Laz's counterattack. It was a method of attack that he was quite aware of having tried the same barrage of attacks on many an occasion. The sharp rise as he focused his energy was the biggest sign that a large offensive attack was about to happen...but luckily it seemed it luck was on Nez's side. He jumped up, letting the bolts of quincy magic fly past him and into a hollow that was struggling to come out of a kumon.

The arrancar turned to look at that, what an odd coincidence. He'd learn a little about their appearance patterns having fought them so many times so recently but Laz...might also have luck on his side. "I don't really feel like getting shot at the moment." Nez would say, snapping his fingers in front of him as he used more bakudo, this time letting flower petals fill Laz's line of sight. It was another of his combinations and this one, atleast, he knew worked well enough. Laz wouldn't be able to defend, nor attack as Nezuel sent another line of lightning at him

In there time apart it looked like Nezuel had expanded his armory of spells, most of which had debilitating effects. Seeing the first beam he would flourish finally summon his weapons of choice, the blade being used to block the beam from masking contact, though it was only a diversion. The petal's flowing in front of him left him feeling lethargic, though it would soon be followed up with a splitting pain shooting through his body as the real effects of the spell racked his body. If that wasn't bad enough he would feel the lightning like shocks and piercing nature of the spell they had both known well digging deep into his side.



"God's I'm tired of losing..."



There blade in his left hands smoldered like the embers of a forge, the arrow currently pulled back in the hand bow lit at the tip with a flame like reishi. He could feel that each attack was taking more effort, a spell he'd had used on him before, though he wasn't given much choice in the matter of how to respond. He took two shots at the arrancar, this time aiming for the same spot, the center of his chest. If they hit their mark they also had the ability to take hold and burn for longer, though he wasn't sure what kind of defense the hollow had gained since their last fight.

Nez frowned at the quincy in front of him. How long ago had the two of them fought over that building, how long since he'd last tasted his tingling lips? Nezuel had been strong as a hollow, weak as the newborn arrancar he had been back then. Was it so odd for him to gain new abilities, to frown quickly back into the power that he had once wielded so naturally. Compared to the other races hollows were a thing of instinct and need...and with every spell he cast he almost seemed to do it without the need to learn it true, to speak the words as if they were spoken by another.

He held up his hand as he saw Laz's arrows come for him, summoning a small sheild made of reishi. He knew the power of his arrows and they wouldn't be able to pierce his kido. But as the arrows struck him he was surprised at their force...and the burn that coursed through him at their touch. "You've grown too." Nez would say with a smile at the quincy. It seemed like the two of them might have grown in different directions, similar at the start but branching like the limbs of a tree. He was curious where they would both end up.

He lifted up a hand, weaving some bakudo into the low level hado that turned the lightning he fired off at Lazarus red. He knew his bakudo kept him from using his full might lest he over exhaust himself....he had to keep it up or else this might start to get dangerous for him.

While the frost still clung to him, most of the other effects seemed to pass without much issue, his body less restricted now that he wasn't under the spells anymore. Taking a moment to assess the situation, Lazarus expanded his mind and sensed all around, keeping his main focus on Nezuel. This allowed him to sense the energy amassing at the others fingertips, and with a quickness that had not yet been displayed he was able to deftly spin on his heels to avoid it. In keeping with the change of pace, Lazarus would rush the hollow, getting in low and coming up with the blade, aiming to slash clean up from hip to shoulder. Simultaneously he would fire an arrow once again at the center of the others chest, hoping the close quarters would better his odds of hitting his target. After the quick assault he'd opt to return to the previous distance, back stepping a handful of paces.



"It's not enough, it never seems to be enough. I'd rather not fight if I can help it, but knowing that even if it comes to blows that I'd still be this outclassed..."



Nezuel hadn't known much about what he had been up too since the last time they were together, knew nothing of Lazarus abandoning his people, of his encounter with an entity that worshipped the something otherworldly even to them. Every time they crossed paths it was a stark reminder of how weak he really was, and for the first time in a long time, it hurt to realize that fact. He didn't feel this way around Gaia, she was a being with few equals, that he could live with. Even if he didn't want this fight, despite the fact that it carved into his mind how weak he still was, he also knew it was the only path to getting stronger. He raised his blade up, pointing the tip towards the arrancar and channeling the electric energy through the blade to fire it. There were mixed emotions in his eyes, anger at himself, envy at Nezuel's power, a touch of sadness at the situation they were both in. Beyond those things he emanated the look of someone who had lost their way, a person who had cast away everything they thought they knew, and was left to wander in the darkness in search of answers.

Nezuel had to admit that fighting Laz seemed a little...depressing. The quincy was working on himself, surley, he was defiantly stronger than he had been previously but...perhaps he was over zealous in focusing on one direction. It was surely worth it to focus on improving yourself through sheer might than technique but...it did make one lose out on certain benefits.


"You can't compare yourselves to others until you find out who you are Lazzy." Nez would say, letting up on his assualt for a moment. His attacks had him him all, inflicting their damage but he barely felt it. Instead, his blood was singing in his veins even as it dripped down his body. He could do this...it was risky but he could do this. "We're not drawing enough attention...I apologize if this ends badly."

"Despertar Sangre"

His blood flowed around him for a moments, blocking Lazarus's sight to Nezuel for a moment before it faded, revealing a older version of the kid that Lazarus had been looking at mere moments before. The figure's clothes moved slightly, the shadow under its appeal growing and showing eyes and teeth, looking around and opening as if hungry for more. The riatsu in the area would start to decrease as those hungry souls started to feast...no small part of them opening theirs mouths to focus on Lazarus' stores of reishi.

While he saw the spell and prepared his defenses, he was only able to deter a majority of the damage, some still leaking through his guard to tear into his senses. Just as the arrancar before him had done, Lazarus in turn would pull in reishi from the attack's thrown his way, adding to his already dwindling reserves. He'd watch as Nezuel changed forms, assuming this was the ressureccion that the arrancar had achieved since their last fight. As loathe as he was to admit it, the hollow had a point, Lazarus had no idea who he was outside of being a soldier, a faceless nameless tool used to further others goals. Hells he didn't even have that anymore, adrift in an ocean of uncertainty, no clue as to which way led to land.



He didn't respond with words, only with the raising of the blade, using his reishi to fire off in rapid succession three bolts of electricity. It was all he could do to keep the pressure on, though he felt himself being drained of more reishi as he used the spell, groaning to himself as the last of the three bolts left his blade's edge. It would appear that what little damage he did had all but healed thanks to this transformation, adding more insult to injury.

"You are strong, Lazarus." Nezuel would say, bringing up a hand wrapped in blood as the three bolts of electricity shot towards him. "Stonger than many shinigami I met." Two met their mark, his hand moving to catch them as the blood around him slowed down and blunted the blow, the fire still burning him even as the red liquid sizzled and burned. The third he deflected with a sword made of the same blood, sending it arcing to the ground. He was starting to become worried....the burns he was accumulating would continue for quite some time...perhaps he should do something about that...stop the quincy from apply anymore of that burning riatsu to him?

"We simply have different rates of growth. Even this." he held out a hand to indicate himself. "Was beyond me a short while ago, it would..." he trailed off as he heard a scream inside his head, both hands moving to either side. "I...apologize...." he'd say, breathing heavily. He was beginning to see a trend with the types of spells Nezuel was casting, of all the spells he had used not many did actual damage, more so trying to hinder him in some way or another. It was because he was paying attention to them that he had started to figure out how to best respond, knowing that this sensation would make it difficult to defend, more draining perhaps. On top of that the arrancar had taken to a method of combat where he would drain the opponents reishi reserves to keep them from going all out and emptying the tank. Nobody could manipulate reishi better than the quincy race though, and just as quickly as it was taken from him, Lazarus would take from the hollows own reserves.



"Talk after huh..."



Even in his misery, Lazarus was studying the spells, looking at the bloody chains around him and doing the mental work as to what type of spell it might be and how he could recreate it in his own time. With all the commotion between the two he hadn't noticed the weather begin to change around them, the once dark night had grown almost black as the clouds gained weight, moving overhead like a whale through the ocean. A droplet of water landed on his head, then another on his shoulder, a moment more and it would begin to rain around them, a steady shower threatening to turn into a downpour. Holding up the hand bow he fired two shots, Seeing if he could hit each shoulder and start to do some more damage to the hollow.
