The abandoned industrial district of the Moscow surroundings has a big problem, and a single solution.

Something had drawn a swarm of Hollows into the area - perhaps they caught a signature of spiritual energy there, or maybe it was simply Brownian motion in action. There, however, they began to meet a swift end, one after the other.

Leaping across the rooftops, spinning on the pipes in the air, using Bringer Light to double-jump and make it across long distances if needed, a blur of red and blast flew - and every time it would turn towards a Hollow, a massive scythe would suddenly cut through them without a hint of remorse. Decapitated or cleaved in half, the spirits would break apart and vanish, dying for good, while the blur would move on, leaping through the industrial zone and picking out its next target.

Finally, taking to the air and spinning in the sky, the blur would finally show its face - a young woman, wielding a Fullbring in the form of a mechanical gun-scythe, and cloaking her body with a red cape and hood. Moments later, she would descend, slashing a surprised Hollow in half, breaking apart its mask and killing the creature on the spot.

Val landed on her feet, in a clearing surrounded by three abandoned shoe factories, and bowed to nobody in particular. Ever since the world beyond the human eye opened itself to her, it has been nothing but a cathartic ride - and moments like would always leave her heart in fluster. Could you imagine yourself, being a little girl locked in an apartment, only able to watch the starry sky and dream, suddenly gain access to superpowers you always thought could only exist in TV shows?

She's already broken reality once, from here, the only place to go is towards the stars. Unless someone interrupts her, of course.

From behind her, a huge hollow suddenly appeared. Its arm was raised high, claws ready to strike. However it hesitated for some reason. It stood, like a statue for a second or two before the top half of its body started to slide off from the bottom half. Slowly revealed now was a very distinct cut running diagonally across the monster. Before the large chunk sliding off hit the ground, the monster's body dissipated. Left behind was the original soul, the plus.

Iroh lifted the kashira of his zanpakuto, the cap of the sword's hilt, and placed it against the forehead of the spirit. A bright blue light was emitted once the cap touched their forehead and then the spirit itself changed into a ball of light and ascended up into the night air before disappearing completely.

The task completed and no other hollows nearby, Iroh sheathed his zanpakuto and turned to face the girl. She was a curiosity. The girl was very obviously not a shinigami, but also not a quincy. Her aura read like that of a hollow, but only slightly and somehow different. His bright golden-red eyes were unblinking as he stared at her for a moment.

Then suddenly he smiled and declared, quite loudly: "Greetings!"

His voice echoed through the air, reverberating across the abandoned buildings.

"I appreciate that you slayed these hollows, but if you do not cleanse them, the balance of souls will be tipped and the world could drop into chaos."

He crossed his arms over his chest.

"So, please, let us Shinigami handle these dark spirits!"

Only one Hollow left, and Val's Reiatsu senses blared like an alarm as soon as it manifested itself behind her. It was taller, more muscular and more furious than any of the other Hollows in the swarm, having clearly eaten more than a few souls in its lifetime, and so left the Fullbringer's blood boiling. Unfortunately, she did not get to fight it - a blinding cut suddenly cleaved it in twain, and the creature dissipated after its two halves divided in a slow, dramatic fashion.

Where the Hollow once was, now stood a man, with a set of eyes so wide that they were almost frightening, and a mane of hair which resembled a flame. Judging from how he cleansed the Plus freed from the Hollow's body, it was clearly a Shinigami.

Val grinned and rested her gun-scythe on her shoulder, listening to the man introduce himself and explain the gravity of the situation.

"You're certainly forward," she spoke in response. "All the other Shinigami who confronted me would only bring up the imbalance of souls part after I told them off."

Feigning disinterest, Val began looking at her nails and struck a frown.

"What if I told you that your fearmongering is my goal? That what you are told of the disbalance of souls and collapse of the two worlds is the way they keep us under control?"

"What if I told you that your fearmongering is my goal? That what you are told of the disbalance of souls and collapse of the two worlds is the way they keep us under control?"

Iroh was silent for a moment after the girl spoke. His steady and unflinching stare remaining constant as he considered what she said. Finally, after what may have felt like an eternity, he blinked slowly and replied.

"Very well!"

His smile remained as he stared back at her intensely with his unwavering red-gold eyes.

"In accordance with our laws, I shall dispatch anyone willfully attempting to undo the balance of souls."

His head canted to the side and his eyes closed, but that unnerving smile remained.

"Please, prepare yourself!"

Suddenly Iroh was gone, vanished from where he stood. A bit of dirt and dust lifted off of the ground in his wake. In the next second he was upon her, reappearing right in front of her with one hand firmly grasping the hilt of his zanpakuto. Those wide eyes staring up at her, locked onto her own. Another half-second and he slashed upwards diagonally across her chest intending to render her in two just like the Hollow previously.

The Shinigami was... surprisingly unnerving, it was almost like what Val said did not affect him at all. He accepted her answer like a calculating machine accepts a punch card, and spat out a predictable answer - for choosing to willfully destroy the balance of souls, she needs to be stopped. Immediately, the Fullbringer's body began to tense, ready to react to an incoming blow at any moment.

"Then bring it on..."

And so, the first blow came - the Shinigami immediately appeared before her and struck, sending a powerful cleave just like the one which the just saw take down the Hollow. It collided with the length of Val's scythe, and yet, the sheer force of his attack sent the Fullbringer sliding back regardless.

"Hehe..." she muttered under her breath. While she grinned, the Fullbring in her hands kept shifting and unfolding, revealing the full extent of the weapon. A Bringer Light push manifested under her feet and launched her forward, across the battlefield - then she swung her weapon, aiming to swipe through the Shinigami and land behind him whether she hit or not.

Val landed on her feet with a short slide, all while dramatically holding up her gun-scythe. She glanced over her shoulder, smirking, and muttered:

"Do you ever dream?.."

His sudden strike had pinged against her scythe's pole and pushed her back somewhat, but otherwise she remained mostly unharmed. Iroh appeared unfazed by his unsuccessful attempt to cut her down.

The girl grinned and launched towards him. He narrowed his normally wide eyes, noticing the unique spiritual energy displaced at her feet. His curiosity was further piqued as her scythe weapon morphed and changed while she used it to swipe at him. He had not encountered someone with these types of abilities before. It was entirely possible he was too hasty in his judgement to eliminate her.

The blade of her transforming weapon struck his shoulder as she zipped past and landed behind him.

"Do you ever dream?.."

Without turning around, Iroh reached up with his free hand and touched the fresh wound with his fingertips. He brought his hand in front of his face to see the warm blood coating his fingers. He smiled and let the hand fall back to his side before responding.

"Hmm... yes... yes I do."

Iroh's eyes closed slowly as he let out a contemplative sigh. A second or two passed until his eyes flashed open again, the brilliant red-gold irises seemed to shimmer in the faint moonlight. He stared ahead with focused intensity and lifted up his zanpkauto, holding the blade horizontally in front of him.

"Ignite, Izanagi!"

Suddenly the blade of his sword began to glow red, then orange, and finally white hot. Heat began to emanate off of it, the air around started to distort slightly. Then, in a flash, flames burst forth from it. The air around him became stifled and arid like walking through a blazing desert.

He lowered his flaming sword to his side and took a step back so that his left side was facing her. He lifted his free hand and quickly pointed his index and middle fingers at the girl. He then silently cast Bakudo #1, Sai. The cast spell was intended to, as the name implied, restrain her by locking her arms behind her back to prevent her from moving.

The Shinigami does dream.
The Shinigami also wields the power of fire, and turned the field around them into an inferno, scorching flames surrounding them and an unbearable heat rushing across the Fullbringer.

Val hissed, briefly, then gritted her teeth. Not only was the heat going to slow her down, but also an invisible force was tugging onto her wrists, trying to pull her arms off her war-scythe and push them behind her back. She quickly figured out what's happening. Bakudo #1, Sai, the first of the Kido spells she was taught while under Red Lotus tutelage. Common among anyone with enough spiritual awareness, and equally simple to break free from. A burst of Reishi around her arms is all she needed to break the spell.

"So you do dream, then. You're not as cold as you make yourself appear to be," Val stated, all while the scyle began to fold and reshape itself. Pulling images from its wielder's dreams and memories, it transformed into a monstrosity of a weapon, resembling a flamethrower somewhat, only except of a little flame at the barrel of the weapon, a crystal of ice was floating.

As soon as she pulled the trigger, a torrent of ice and chilly air burst forth, aiming to engulf the Shinigami's side of the battlefield. How else do you fight someone who wields the power of heat if not by cooling them down, after all? Maybe some sub-zero temperature will slow them down, too.

"A Shinigami like yourself must dream of something big, though. I heard y'all like to dream of becoming Captains, or saving the world, or something equally impossible..." Val continued, folding her Fullbring back into its usual gun-scythe form. Without any further ado, she charged forward, hacking and slashing with several scythe wings, before leaping back and landing on her feet whether or not she drew any blood.

She easily broke free from his low level binding spell. He expected as much and as such, it became more and more apparent to him that he should capture her instead of just eliminating her. She may be of more value to Soul Society if they could learn more about her... especially if there are more of her kind out there.

He was positive the 12th Division would be interesting in studying her abilities.

"So you do dream, then. You're not as cold as you make yourself appear to be."

Iroh raised a brow. He was quite warm now, especially with his Shikai activated. The shinigami didn't quite grasp the connotation she was trying to make. He watched as her weapon morphed into some sort of reverse flame thrower that shot ice and cold instead of fire and flame.

The burst of ice and freezing cold air shot towards him. He raised another brow, curious as to her intentions as the ice and cold air met his flames and simply evaporated into nothing but steam. The flames from Izanagi were much too hot for something like that to be effective.

"A Shinigami like yourself must dream of something big, though. I heard y'all like to dream of becoming Captains, or saving the world, or something equally impossible..."

She quickly dashed towards him and slashed again with her weapon returning to its scythe form once again. He leaned away from the first strike, but the second winged him. It left a gash across his back and a ripped opening through his cape and jacket.

He noted that she seemed to enjoy talking. Maybe she expected to distract him somehow. Iroh pulled his cape off of his shoulders and tossed it away. On his back was a white logo. The diamond symbol for his division. All of the members of the 10th division had this same logo on their backs, another difference between them and the other divisions.

As soon as it his body, his white cape quickly burned to cinders before even touching the ground.

He stared back at her with those wide, glistening red-gold orbs.

"I dream about... the end."

Then he simply slashed upward into the air, his sword's flames trailing behind the diagonal, upwards swipe. This sent a burst of flames rolling towards her, like a tidal wave of fire. It was incredible the amount of flames produced by such a simple swipe of his blade.

Val blurbed out a very brief "blyat" upon seeing that the magical wonder she created and wielded in her hands turned out to be a dud, and all it created was a cloud of water vapor. Once again, reality conspires against her - but the Fullbringer decided to not repeat herself in her thoughts and just moved on. Especially since, after she retreated from the attack, what came from within the vapor and the flames immediately caught her attention.

The Shinigami took off his cape, clearly to show that he was about to go serious, and replied to her winded speech with a single sentence. Hearing it, Val immediately grinned, almost cackling.

"...so that makes two of us." she muttered as she raised her war-scythe in preparation for the next round of battle. The Shinigami swung his weapon across the air, unleashing a torrent of flame which Val responded to rather simply - swinging her weapon across the air and slashing across the flame, cutting apart a path for herself and running forward.

Instead of simply hacking and slashing at the Shinigami, however, the Fullbringer first pulled a trick. In the midst of charging, she turned her weapon around and thrust the butt end of it at the man's chest - at the bleeding wounds she had already opened with her reckless cuts, with the aim of opening them more. Only then did she continue swinging, with the force and speed of a hurricane.

The girl cut through his flames with ease. If he were anyone else, the shinigami would have been frustrated and maybe even a bit annoyed, but not Iroh. No, he was growing more and more curious about the girl and her powers the longer they fought. She would definitely prove to be a valuable specimen, but in this moment, he was just curious at how powerful she truly was. Her potential intrigued him.

She came running directly at him. Iroh pulled back his fiery sword to swipe at her again, but she was very quick. The girl flipped the scythe around and struck at his chest with the blunt end of the pole arm. He grunted as the force of the strike aggravated the already open wounds.

He squinted slightly upon impact, but that smile of his crept back along his face, pulling at his cheeks. Not only powerful, but she was a cunning fighter as well. The girl continued to impress.

The swift strikes from her scythe cut across his chest and slashed just above his left eye. Each tattered piece of clothing burned up as it left his body. The area around him now a sweltering inferno. Yet he seemed unaffected by the flames, even though parts of his uniform burned once leaving his body.

As she was striking, Iroh took the hits and mitigated the damage somewhat with Izanagi's flames. He then focused that power to direct an explosion of force and fire back at her.

After the burst of flames he liked to call "Backdraft," Iroh swiped his sword horizontally, sending another torrent of flames rolling towards the girl.

The Fullbringer's wide swings left their mark on the Shinigami, if the gushing wound above his left eye had anything to say, but he was far from finished. Before Val could even think about leaping back and saying her next piece, a burst of heat and flames suddenly erupted from his body - with a yelp, she got blown back, smashing across the pavement and finally stopping with a slide several meters away.

The Shinigami wasn't going to let her go easily, either. One after the other, swipes of pure flame roared across the air, all slamming into Val. The ones she managed to side-step, the woman would smack with her scythe and send right back, but the others scorched into her clothes and skin, leaving her burnt, struggling to rise back to her feet from the agony.

Val fell onto one knee, hissed, and muttered:

"Bakud艒 #7. Keikatsu." A faint aura of Reishi began to flow around her, and the painful burns all began to shrink. Her clothes were still partially scorched, showing plenty of skin on her arms and torso, but at least the pain began to recede.

Renewed, Val immediately returned to the attack - if the Shinigami was able to throw around power this strong, then finishing this quick is the only chance she had. She swung her war-scythe yet again, sending a series of increasingly ferocious slashes at her opponent.

Iroh watched as his flames were returned to him, somehow reflected. They struck up against Izanagi's and reached through, tendrils of red and yellow licking at his skin. He winced slightly. Izanagi's flames never harmed him as long as he held onto the blade while it was ignited. That was the trick to his ability. He never really had to deal with the fire coming back at him like that. He made a mental note that he would train harder to resist the flames. It was a weakness and would need to be remedied.

After the reversed flames had subsided, Iroh could see that she suffered against his fire as well. His brow arched slightly as she used Keikatsu to heal herself. So she could use kido spells too? It made sense if she could break free from a low level one, she likely knew how to use them herself. Still... More and more interesting with every step of this bout.

The girl, unusually silent, replied to his flame strikes with swings of her deadly scythe. He moved towards her, one step at a time, taking the brunt of her swings and sending his flames back at her. The blade cut deep into him each time. He was by no means unaffected, but his determination and resilience wouldn't let him fall. His uniform from the waist up was in tatters and along his legs his hakama was sliced up as well. Yet he continued towards her, one pained step at a time.

His smile remained, even through the pain and the sting of her blade. His one eye stared at her as he continued forward.

Closing the distance between them and seeing a break in her attacks, he swung his sword again, sending a new rush of fire towards her at blazing speed.

Whichever one of the two was going to win this bout, they were going to do so soon. As she retreated from the clash of blades, Val could tell that despite all the damage she left on the Shinigami, she was faring not much better. All the heat and fire thrown around was taking a serious toll on her defenses, every single burst of flame the Shinigami threw at her would leave painful burns, lingering even as the attacks receded.

Grunting under her breath, glaring at the Shinigami, Val narrowed her eyes and raised her weapon. No more fooling around.

Focus. In the next ten seconds, either you take down this Shinigami, or the Shinigami takes you down. The world around her began to turn into background noise and a dimmed blur, as every single nerve and every single muscle focused for the final charge.

The Shinigami sent a yet another rush of flame, only for it to get suddenly cut into pieces at speeds faster than the untrained eye can track. Immediately after, Val lunged forward, blitzing across the battlefield, turning into a blur herself.

Let's see which one's dream of the end will become reality.

The Fullbringer leapt into the air, spinning in front of the rays of the sun, and descended down, aiming to slam the entirety of her heavy weapon into the Shinigami and smear him across the ground.

He stopped in his tracks as she diminished his flames with swipes of her weapon. Then she lunged forward and charged him, moving at incredible speeds. He was actually having trouble keeping up with her movements. His eyes darted left then right as she darted towards him, then he quickly looked up. The only evidence she had even jumped was a slight puff of dirt kicked up in her wake. His eyes followed the red blur as she crossed the rising sun and then fell back towards the ground.

His slid his left foot back slightly as her weapon came crashing down and at the last second he jumped back from the impact site. When she hit the ground it sent a spiritual shockwave out that blew out all of Izanagi's flames in the immediate area. The only thing left burning was his zanpakuto itself.

His eyes widened, if that were possible. Iroh was almost giddy with excitement. She was incredible. He wanted nothing more than to keep fighting, to see if his flames could burn her through and through.

Without a word he disappeared from sight, a bit of dust kicking up as he vanished.

He then reappeared behind her, his fiery sword held over his head with both hands. His eyes almost glowing with fierce excitement as he slashed downward towards the spot where she had landed just a second earlier.

The powerful crash downwards left Val's heavy weapon embedded within the ground - it had easily cracked through the asphalt and the earth below, perhaps a bit too easily, as it now left the woman extremely vulnerable. And, sure thing, as soon as her opponent stopped acting giggity from the excitement, he moved in to take advantage of her failure - a vanish and a zip later, the Shinigami was behind her, ready to strike.

"Bakud艒 #21: Byakurai."

Moments before the Zanpakuto struck, a cloud of red smoke detonated around Val, shrouding her completely and covering most of the battlefield. The reprieve may have only lasted a second, but it was enough for the Fullbringer to withdraw her weapon, transform it, and return to the attack.

Much like the Shinigami, she opted to strike from the behind - appearing back-to-back behind the Shinigami, she suddenly thrusted with a device crafted from her Fullbring. A complex construct which resembled a syringe somewhat, and if it struck, it would aim to drain the victim of as much spiritual energy as it could siphon in a short amount of time.

The woman herself spun to turn around and stepped back, the Fullbring on her shifting and transforming on the fly, this time into two pistols her mind copied from a science fiction movie she watched as a kid - with them, she fired off several shots of pure Reishi.
