As Iroh was sending his sword crashing down atop the girl, all of a sudden he slashed into nothing at all and was instead met with think red smoke. Sekienton. The girl was well versed in the kido arts it seemed, or at the very least, her knowledge was versatile.

Before he could spot her again, he felt a slight bump up against his back and then the not so subtle pinch of the needle from her makeshift syringe. Suddenly he felt his spiritual energy being siphoned away. Instead of being frustrated or angry, Iroh was instead more and more fascinated. Her scythe was some kind of multi-tool that could reconfigure based on what the moment required. Incredible adaptable with great utility. To him, it seemed like the scythe would have amazing potential.

Iroh moved to swipe at her, but she had already dodged away, turned, and shot at him with another version of her multi-tool. This time, it was in the form of dual pistols. With her new spiritually powered handguns, she got off a few shots before Iroh could react. Thankfully for him, the bullets made of reishi burned up before reaching him and he was able to quickly dodge the other shots.

He wasted no time in reengaging with her. With one swift motion, he swung his fiery sword diagonally up across his chest and over his head, sending another wave of deadly flames towards her.

The burst of flame consumed Val's body, leaving it obscured by the blinding light and unbearable heat. Then, an X-slash tore through the inferno, whipping up a gust of wind which blew it apart. The Fullbringer was still standing there, only now, she looked somewhat different. It was not a transformation, no - instead, her Fullbring had changed its shape, giving its wielder a thin set of armor and dividing the gun-scythe into several floating blades, connected by an invisible magnetic link.



She may have appeared confident, but Val knew that this was probably the last serious blow she would be able to throw this fight, barring the world's most unlikely fit of luck. A more practical person, one with a strategic view of the battle, might have chosen to go on the defense instead of forcing its Fullbring to continue overexerting itself. But Val was not practical nor strategic. It was a gamble, and gambling was a fun pastime for her.

The Fullbringer swung with her scythe, and all the floating parts charged forward in a choreographed swarm, speeding across the air and aiming to cut the Shinigami up from every possible angle. First from the left, then from the right, and finally, with a winding, descending smash, from above.

When the girl emerged from his flames, she was unscathed and draped in parts of her weapon. It looked more like some kind of armor than an actual transformation. There were also parts of her scythe that had morphed and were floating beside her. All these wonderful toys she had access to. It was truly something else.

Most of the other Shinigami he had met or sparred with, their Shikai was a specific type or they had a specific set of abilities that they used. This girl, and her weapon, were entirely different to that rule. She could change it at-will to be whatever she needed in the moment. It's powers were varied and adaptable. If this was the kind of enemy he could be expected to face, the future was bright indeed.

Suddenly she swung the scythe and the bits around her that were hovering converged on him for an aerial attack of sorts. It was almost like a mechanical/physical version of his own Flame Strike. He lifted up his sword the guard against the attack. They were too quick for him to simply dodge. The bits tore into him as they passed by like some kind of unavoidable debris field.

The blades and pieces of her scythe ripped gashes into his arms, legs, mid-section, and head. One tore right through his shoulder, taking a chunk out before he left his body.

A practical bucket of blood poured down from his wounds and puddled around his sandals. He coughed as more blood ran down his lips and dripped from his chin.



Yet his smile remained as he lowered his sword. The flames dispersed until his zanpakuto was back to normal. Iroh sheathed the blade and then took a pained step toward her. Then another, wincing as he did so. He could tell she had run out of reishi. Her aura was diminished. Finally he made it to her.

"A valiant effort, but this fight is over."

One deep, pained, difficult breath, then another. It might appear easy and simple from an outside perspective, but to exert herself so hard, constantly manipulating her Fullbring into more and more complicated forms, was taking a toll on her. Had she allowed herself to take even a single break, a single stop to catch her breath, then maybe she would not be in this situation. And yet... she took some pride in her choice to fight non-stop. It takes some guts to clash against a Shinigami so recklessly.

The Shinigami survived her attack, and slowly stepped forward, inching closer and closer with each move. Val's Fullbring reassembled itself into its normal scythe form in her hand, and then forcefully lost its transformed shape, returning back into its usual toolbox form. She wasn't going to be able to use it in battle any long, not unless she recovers the energy she's spent so far.

And yet, that was totally fine. Val attached the box back to her belt, inconspicuously, all while meeting the Shinigami's stare with her own confident one. He soon stopped and declared the battle to be over. Not before complimenting her effort, as futile as it was in the end. Clearly, he did not lack in confidence, either. Val smiled and replied:

"Indeed. Better luck next time."

She placed her hand on her mouth and briefly blew a kiss, before a Bringer Light spell suddenly launched her from the ground and tossed her towards the horizon.

"Indeed. Better luck next time."

The girl blew a kiss and then bound away using some sort of rapid movement ability similar to his own shunpo. His unwavering eye followed her as she lifted up into the air and then disappeared into the horizon. The sun was just coming up and the rays of light were piercing between the various buildings and machinery in the yard they had been fighting in.

Iroh looked down to see his hand was reaching out towards the girl. He hadn't even noticed it had moved. Two fingers were extended outward as if he were going to try and cast the binding spell, Sai again. He found it comforting that even as his mind slowed and hesitated, his body did not. However, she was gone and his chance to capture her was likewise diminished. The arm lowered back to his side and he let out a deep sigh, finally relaxing his tense body.

A senkaimon gate opened behind him. The double doors slid open to reveal a bright light on the other side. A shadow could be seen and then out stepped the Vice-Captain of the 10th Division, Tetsuro Kozume. He had a somewhat annoyed look on his face as he walked over to Iroh and bopped him on the head with his paper fan.

"The Captain has been looking for you."


Iroh just nodded and started towards the gate.

"Were they strong?"

Tetsuro looked back in the direction the girl had fled.

"Very."

Iroh's eye glowed brightly as he disappeared into the gate. Tetsuro gave another look around, narrowed his eyes, and then left through the gate as well.

Then the machine yard was quiet once again.
